Boston Con 2013 Hi folks. Matt's back from holiday with his family and that means only one thing-game on! Boston is on the map! Hats off to Nick Kanieff and company for putting on an off the hook convention. I could not believe how it has grown since our last visit there a handful of years back. 3000 crazy fans rushing through the doors every day. It was great to meet and greet the fans old and new and really cool to run into my old fellow pro homies like James O'barr, Neal Adams, George Perez, Mile Mignola, Howard Chaykin, Dave Land and good buddy writer and martial artist pal John Escobalas who accompanied my wife Nanci and I to pay homage to the site of that great tragedy. It was just something you do and believe me-nobody stops those folks continuing business as usual as one of the county's greatest cities.

Just learned of the passing of Dan Adkins, penciller, inker & illustrator.
Dan was born in West Virginia and grew up in East Liverpool, Ohio. I never had the opportunity to meet him. The closest I got was when I lived in Youngstown, Ohio in '74-'75 and met occasionally w/ Paul Gulacy, who was in the midst of his run on Shang-Chi, Master of Kung Fu for Marvel Comics. Dan had been a mentor to Paul as well as fellow Youngstown native Val Mayerik and P. Craig Russell, who lived a little further south in Ohio. For my money, when Paul was unable to ink his own pencils, Dan was the next best thing and he embellished Paul's pencils beautifully. I well recall Paul's stories of Dan, particularly the ones of his young Ohio "pupils" taking him to the drive-in theater for Elvis Presley film fests. He had seen Elvis live at a state fair or some such event when Elvis was coming up in the fifties and Dan was a huge fan.
I count him among my many influences, having first seen his work on Doctor Strange in the pages of Strange Tales in the sixties.
Condolences to his family & friends. May his soul rest in Peace.

The exhibitions were about the far west-western comic books, the artist Ambrós, 75 years of Superman and 50 years of X-men and the Avengers. A few days ago, Luis Velasco of "Club Batman" contacted me to see if I was interested to collaborate purchasing some illustrations, for good causes and animal welfare. He knows I love your art and offered me your Batman illustration and I accept it. Today I've received the art and I have to say that is awesome! In my modest and little collection of original art were a reserved space for a Gulacy's Batman and now I have it! As I said... Great. Your batman is the best. Hi everybody. I know this is coming in a bit late but better late than never. Those G.I. Joe deadlines are keeping my nose to the grindstone, anyhow, having Wizard land a brand new con in the heart of Portland is a welcome sight and long in coming for a state of the art, cutting edge city like Portland. A great show overall pulling over 7000 folks through the gates. One of the first guys to come over and greet me was Mighty Mike Deodato, the new Assassin. Huge fans of each other and a great guy.  Other folks I ran into were Kurt Busiek, Chris Claremont, Art Suydam, Mike Richardson and many more. Huge props to my lovely wife Nanci who assists me and keeps everything on an even keel.  This show is new and on it's way as a true contender on the pacific coast. Here are some pics. Enjoy Paul
